A Private Investment
in Pioneer Park

A Partnership for a Safe, Active & Populated Park

New amenities and activations for year-round programming are proposed for Downtown Salt Lake City’s most historic green space.

Why?

1) Make Pioneer Park safe and welcoming for everyone.

Pioneer Park has the lowest Google rating among Salt Lake City parks.

2) Double the visitation and dwell time in the park.

In 2024, on average, less than 170 people visited the park each day.

3) Create social and economic prosperity in the neighborhood.

A healthy park will feed the ecosystem of residents and merchants in the neighborhood.

4) Provide a permanent, year-round home for the Downtown Farmers Market

To secure the future of this beloved social and economic engine.

How?

The SLC Downtown Alliance and Salt Lake City launched a collaborative exploration in April to invest private and public resources that would create:

1) Daily activations

Lawn games, a beverage bar, cafe seating, concerts — in addition to other planned improvements: pickleball, dog park, play area, picnic pavilion and recreational field.

2) A safe park with uniformed downtown safety ambassadors

To manage safety and activation.

3) A multi-purpose public building

For a year-round weekly Downtown Farmers Market and other community events.

4) Clean, staffed restrooms

5) Bold placemaking strategies proven in parks around the country

» The City would own the public building.

» The Alliance would manage expanded park operations and programming beyond regular park maintenance.

» The Alliance would pay for more public benefits using private funding from philanthropy and revenue from private events.

When?

The Alliance and City are working on terms for a public private partnership through 2025.

Project development and construction are projected for 2026-2027.

We look forward to your input on YOUR park!
